Happy New Cheers!


It's time to get your CHEER on again! Happy New Cheers is all about songs that make you want to shake your pom poms and get in the spirit of a new year.  We've got some routines to Backstreet Boys, Azealia Banks, Fergie, Eve and tons more! 90-minutes of dance and cheer and smiles for everyone!

We always want to encourage a squad mentality, so we like to make deals on our class price so you bring your friends: We're offering single tickets for $15, 2 for $25, and 3 for $35--the more the merrier! And we always have the poms, but you are welcome to BYOP :)

A Superfun Birthday party with Fun Ellen!

Sometimes we are lucky enough to be called upon to create a unique party experience for a person or group of people.  We have done bachelorette parties, art openings, been back up dancers at Navy Pier, and various other random events, but this was our very first BIRTHDAY PARTY...



Ellen wrote to us wondering if we could put something together for her birthday...


OF COURSE WE CAN!


We asked her some questions about herself and from there created brand new cheers all about her....



and routines to songs by her favorite artists [she loves boy bands and divas]




And we even choreographed a routine to Cover Girl by RuPaul that they all learned so fast and then ROCKED it





Her crew brought some adult beverages and snacks, and Ellen made everyone there a personalized jug to quench their thirst with [even us captains!--so sweet!]





And when scheduled fun was done they sang happy birthday, then grabbed their poms and did some tricks

And didn't leave until hugging us all goodbye. Such a sweet, enthusiastic bunch of lovelies...

Ho HO HOLIDAY SPECTACULAR This Sunday!!

Hello Squad!
Hope you're all staying warm and enjoyed your Thanksgivings! I can tell you that your captains are ready to burn off some of those mashed potatoes in a really fun way THIS SUNDAY at HiFi Fitness! We have a really fun, silly, special HOLIDAY edition for you to jingle jangle your poms to! As always, expressing your inner cheerleader is always welcome in the form of costuming, so don't be shy with your santa hats and elf skirts or dreidel tanks and silver sequined skirts.

Cheerobix on NBC's 1st Look!



Hey Squad! Jenarator here. Just want to give a big thanks to the 1st Look crew for putting together such an awesome segment about Cheerobix!  Little did we know that the show would be aired outside of Chicago and we have gotten a great response from cities like NYC, Dallas, and LA!  [And now my 6-month pregnant self will forever be immortalized--oy]

Food and Booty and JOCK JAMS at a NEW TIME!

This November we had a contest to name our theme and the Winner was [drumroll, please....] Brooke Bogner!  She suggested we celebrate November's crush on food with a Cheerobix devoted to it! We loved that idea, and thought we'd expand on it to include Jock Jams in honor of football season, as well as songs about ample booties, [which we celebrate as well!]  That's a great well of thematic  ideas we get to choose from! So far we have come up with routines to Kelis [Milkshake], Sneaker Pimps [Spin Spin Sugar], Black Eyed Peas [My Humps], Freak Nasty [Da Dip] and Nelly Furtado [Maneater], just to name a few... Dia de los Muertos!






OMG, Squad.  It's time....
We are so excited to be BACK with another power-packed 90-minute Cheerobix workshop! For October, we thought we'd play off the Halloween/Dia de los Muertos holiday and honor some of our favorite artists who have left this earthly world, but have left some gems of heavenly music behind...




You'll get to shake your poms to Michael Jackson, Brittany Murphy [yes, she actually sang] Beastie Boys [RIP AdRock!] INXS, Amy Whinehouse, Notorious BIG, and much more!  We've 'dug up' some old favorites and are amped to finally be cheering with you in our long format workshop once again THIS SUNDAY!!

Two chances to CHEER!

We are so excited to be back at it after a month hiatus from our workshop schedule that we have TWO workshop opportunities to offer you!  First is our monthly CHEEROBIX EXPRESS:

Matthew Hollis [Mattrick Swayze]

Matthew Hollis has been committed to fitness for over 6 years as a certified personal trainer and iron-pumping addict. He trains individuals, teaches various group classes and boot camps, and will whip your hot tail into gear. His no nonsense approach keeps his clients focused and working hard throughout every workout. Your results are his top priority, but lucky for you, he is also very charming and fun to have around. You can find Matthew teaching and training and Cheetah Gyms, Columbia College, Indigo Studio and corporate classes at Google!

Jena Ertel [the Jenarator]

Jena began her on-again off-again experience with poms in middle school and has had cheer in her heart ever since. A degree in Dance from Columbia as well as a Dance Education certification from UWM led her to over 10 years [so far] of teaching dance and movement of all sorts to people of all ages. Jena currently teaches group fitness and yoga classes and loves the booming sound of unison pom swishes. She is a certified yoga instructor and is constantly building her knowledge of anatomy and kinesiology so she can be the best educator to her students. If she is not practicing her body rolls and high kicks, you'll probably find the Jenarator smothering her little doggie and baby Emmitt with kisses or obsessing over flora or fauna of some sort.


HOW DID ALL OF THIS START??

Well, Mattrick and the Jenarator have been great pals for just about ever, meeting as dance students in college. They have performed together and separately for over a decade and have been cheering together for about 6 years.

In 2007, Matthew created a performance group/concept called the "Power of Cheer" based on his need to be his own best cheerleader. So began an honest, funny, raw series of performances done with two other men, and sometimes just he alone.

As the popularity of the Power of Cheer grew, so did the squad. A core group of 5 males and 4 females began to form and not only did Matthew create, produce and execute a hugely successful full-length evening performance piece, but this core squad also began performing full-scale pom routines and original cheers for the halftime shows for the Windy City Rollers, as well as pranced and kicked on a moving float for 3 consecutive Gay Pride Parades.

It seemed evident that the practice that went into rehearsing for these shows was so physically demanding, that it would make for a really fun, cardio-tastic form of group fitness. With that in mind, in summer 2010, Matthew was asked by the City of Chicago to lead a series of ‘Cheerobics’ classes in Millennium Park, which was wildly popular.

One night, Jena and Matthew were dancing around in an empty beergarden and he showed her some of the moves from these ‘Cheerobics’ classes and Jena got so excited she said, “We HAVE to do this. People would LOVE this! “

And now here we are. Present day. Jena joins forces with Matthew to co-create a Cheerobix curriculum and pedagogy to take to all the inner cheerleaders out there. Because it's fun to dance, its fun to prance, and darn it--its fun to play with pom pons!
